The wrist is a complex joint that bridges the hand to the forearm. It is actually a collection of multiple bones and joints. The bones comprising the wrist include the distal ends of the radius and ulna, 8 carpal bones, and the proximal portions of the 5 metacarpal bones. All of these bones participate in complex movements that allow variable mobility of the hand. The hand is capable of three types of motion: flexing and extending, pronating and supinating, and deviating from side to side. In order to maintain mobility without sacrificing stability, the wrist joint has a complex configuration of ligaments. The joints of the wrist are surrounded by a fibrous capsule and are held together by an array of ligaments that provide carpal stability. Injury to these structures are assessed by the Boston wrist doctor and may include trigger fingers, carpal tunnel syndrome, and DeQuervain's syndrome. At Boston Sports & Shoulder Center, your Boston wrist doctor will carefully examine your wrist injury to make the most accurate diagnosis and will work with you to come up with the best treatment strategy. We understand how difficult every day activities can be when your hand is injured, and we do our utmost to get you fully functioning as quickly as possible.
